PULL ・ REDUCE
Mnemonic
See the stick (丨) pulling across a bow (弓). Just like pulling a bowstring back, this kanji means to PULL. From that action comes another meaning: when you pull back from something, you REDUCE it.
Example Vocabulary
- 引く（ひく） – to pull, to draw
- 割引（わりびき） – discount, reduction
- 引力（いんりょく） – gravitational pull, attraction
- 辞書を引く（じしょをひく） – to look up in a dictionary (literally “to pull a dictionary”)
- 引退（いんたい） – retirement (pulling back)
