About this Draft

This page is part of the early access version of The Kanji Speedrun. The essentials—kanji meanings and mnemonics—are already in place and usable, but nearly every part of the page is still being polished. Some entries may contain mistakes, but please rest assured we are working hard to make revisions.

We’re sharing these drafts now so you can keep learning while we polish the full experience. If you notice something off, please don’t hesitate to let me know—it’s a huge help in improving the course!

THINK

Mnemonic

At the top is rice field (田) and below is heart (心). Picture your heart working while gazing out over a rice field — when the heart and the fields come together, it’s a quiet moment to THINK. Just as rice needs time to grow, so too do our thoughts take time to mature.

A person sitting at the edge of a rice field, hand on heart, deep in thought — representing 思.
Looking at the rice fields with a hand on the heart — a moment to THINK.

Example Vocabulary

  • – to think, to feel
  • – memory
  • – compassion, consideration
  • – determination, resolve
  • – thought, thinking

Thoughts of the heart
From the simple act of 思う (to think) to deeper forms like 思いやり (compassion) and 思い出 (memories), this kanji reminds us that thinking is never just in the head — it’s rooted in the heart.

Example Sentences

  • ふるさとのことを思うと、なつかしくなります。– When I think of my hometown, I feel nostalgic.
  • この歌を聞くと、子どものころの思い出がよみがえります。– When I hear this song, memories of childhood come back.
